What is the COPES Study?
The COPES Study is also known as the Corona: Pregnancy Effects of Stress Study. This study collects all data through online surveys. It will help researchers to understand if stress, anxiety, and changes in daily routines related to the pandemic might affect pregnancy.
Why am I being asked to participate?
You are being asked to be in the study because you are planning to deliver at UNC, have recently had an ultrasound or OB clinic visit at UNC, and are less than 28 weeks pregnant.
What will I have to do?
We will send you an email with detailed information about the study. If desired, you may also receive a call from research staff to discuss the study with you and answer any questions. If you agree to participate, you will review an online consent form and HIPAA form in detail.
Once you agree to participate and sign the consent form and the HIPAA form, we will ask you to complete some surveys about stress, your relationships now and during your childhood, your daily activities, and symptoms you are experiencing. You will receive 3 follow-up sets of surveys, every 2 weeks (total of 4 sets of surveys). Each set of surveys should take less than 5 minutes to complete.
All data collection occurs electronically; no in-person visits are required.
Are there any risks?
Study-related risks are low. There is a small risk that psychological distress may result from the completion of the survey. Additionally, there is the risk loss of confidentiality, but every effort is made to protect against this.
Will it cost me anything to be in the study?
There are no costs to participate.
Will I be paid to participate?
If you complete the initial survey, you will be entered into a drawing based on chance, in which each participant has equal odds of receiving a $50 gift card. There will be one drawing for every 40 women who complete the initial survey, so each participant has a 1:40 chance of receiving a $50 gift card.
